Mr. Faruque Ahmed had a long and diverse career in public, development and NGO sectors. He was the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director of BRAC International, leading and overseeing the implementation of the organization’s long and short term plans, and overseeing the programmes of BRAC International countries with an annual budget of USD 140 million. Prior to that, he was the Director of Health Program of BRAC, managing anannual portfolio of USD 40 million and covering over 90 million population in Bangladesh. He also represented BRAC in policy-level dialogues with senior government and donor representatives.
Prior to joining BRAC, Mr. Ahmed worked for the World Bank office in Dhaka for over 20 years as Population Specialist & Program Officer, and Senior HNP Officer. In the World Bank, Mr. Ahmed supervised service delivery, NGO and community involvement, supply chain management, and financial activities of Health and Population Sector Program (HPSP) worth USD 3 billion. This project focused on wide-ranging policy and institutional reforms, and capacity development activities. Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Ahmed was a Research Officer in the Ministry of Health and Family Affair, Bangladesh, where he prepared multiple programs for the national Health and Family Planning Program,developed communications for internal program assessment and external stakeholders,liaised with donors, and participated in high-level dialog on project design and finalization.
Mr. Ahmed holds (or held in the past) memberships in a number of professional bodies and organizations, including Board Member of BRAC Foundation; Member of the Advisory Board of Kumudini Welfare Trust Project; Member of the Academic advisory Committee of James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University; Member, Civil Society Consultative Group, World Health Organization, and Member of Gavi,the Vaccine Alliance. He has also published significantly in the field of health-service delivery. Mr. Ahmed has a Master’s in Economics from University of Dhaka, and another Master’s in Health Science from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.
